Christian Dating App Reviews

  • Christian dating sites work like any other hookup sites. However, they differ in terms of virtues and the database. Mainly, Christian dating is an opportunity for Christians to find hookups with individuals of the same faith. Ideally, the main connection is the spiritual aspect –it only caters to single Christians’ needs.
  • That’s why we recommend using Christian Mingle, which has become one of the most popular dating apps for Christians. Our dating experts have ranked Christian Mingle as the best Christian dating app because it has a large membership base and uses a smart algorithm to direct single Christian members to a potential match.

Crosspaths Dating App Review :: From the Creators of Christian Mingle

The funny thing about Crosspaths is we’d never heard of it until we stumbled across it in the App Store. We were even more surprised to realize it was from Spark Networks, the creators of Christian Mingle. As much as they market their other online dating sites like Christian Mingle and JDate, you’d think Christians would be well-aware of Crosspaths at this point. But when we polled our single friends who use dating apps the most, none of them knew about Crosspaths.

Here is the second video in my dating app series. If you've been keeping up with my videos, then you know that I'm single and open to dating aga.

Since the Collide Christian dating app seems to have disappeared, Crosspaths does seem to hit the mark more than it’s biggest mobile-only Christian dating app competition, Slide. Crosspaths is well designed and more aesthetically pleasing than Slide. Crosspaths doesn’t include a FAQs or Help Section that assists users in figuring out aspects of the app, but then it is pretty straightforward and doesn’t need a user guide like Slide does.

However, there are still aspects of Crosspaths that we found lacking.

Crosspaths Dating App Review :: What You Can Expect

You can expect that Crosspaths functions like most mobile-only dating apps. You connect the app to your Facebook account. From there, it pulls your profile pictures. You’re able to delete any of those you don’t want on your Crosspaths photo, and you’re able to add any others you want to include.

Crosspaths gives you the option to include your height, your current city, a 1000-word About Me paragraph, and connect to your Instagram account. Those worried about internet safety might want to forgo the Instagram connection, depending on how much you disclose about yourself in your Instagram account.

Your matches will be able to tell how many miles away you are (no specific locations) and how many Facebook connections you have in common. Your profile also includes a description about your faith that you chose from a multiple-choice list, but more about that later.

If you’re interested in a match, you’ll touch the heart and if you’re uninterested, you’ll touch the “X.” The match will never know your decision unless they, too, are interested in you. If you both express interest in each other, you’ll receive a notice from Crosspaths and you can move to their chatting feature.

It’s a pretty simple process, but you’re not given other descriptors like smoking or drinking habits or common Facebook likes. Since the app is more niche than a general one like Tinder or Hinge, we’re assuming Crosspaths left some of the typical profile information off.

Crosspaths Dating App Review :: Disappointing Numbers

Some have billed Crosspaths as a millennial dating app, which might explain why the thirtysomethings we asked to use the app ran out of matches before the twentysomethings. Granted, the app just released in the Fall of 2015, but for a free dating app, the dating pool still seems surprisingly small. According to the iTunes App Store description, Crosspaths has over 12,000 registered users. While that sounds good, when you compare it to the 10 billion users on Tinder, it pales. However, this is a niche app. It’ll probably never have 10 billion users, but it’s not crazy to expect it to have a large portion of them like its sister company, Christian Mingle.

But even then, there just aren’t many users as there are on the more popular mainstream mobile-only dating apps like Tinder or Hinge. When we didn’t restrict age on Crosspaths, we still ran out of match options in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Some of the reviewers in the iTunes store said they’ve had events in Los Angeles, so maybe their user base is stronger in SoCal at this point. Unfortunately we can’t verify that or find anything official that speaks to it.

Free dating apps

Comparatively speaking, reaching the end of the Crosspaths global pool of matches doesn’t take long at all, but you’ll find yourself having to put the phone away daily from exhaustion after swiping through so many Tinder matches.

When you get to the end, Crosspaths offers you the option to become a monthly subscriber for $2.99. If you choose to do so, you’ll be allowed to review and edit your swipes. Recall some or all of them, if you will. This is a nice option for a small price, unless you’re just super lonely or prone to compromising for the sake of being in a relationship.

Pro Tip: If you’re not currently talking to any matches, you can also get all of your old matches back without paying money. You can just delete the app, disconnect it from Facebook, and start over again. It’s a little bit of trouble, but it’s free, so there’s that…

Crosspaths Dating App Review :: By Non-Christians for Christians

Though billed as a Christian dating app, Crosspaths is not created by Christians, for Christians. It is yet another niche site in the Spark Networks belt of online dating sites and apps. While this is not a problem for many, some Christians do want to know about details like this.

We don’t have a problem with Crosspath’s non-Christian ownership. We just think it’s odd that with an advisory board of Christian pastors, authors, and leaders, the profile set-up on this Crosspaths app still comes across as slightly “off.” Like we’ve mentioned before about Christian Mingle and the Collide dating app, Crosspaths hints of what non-Christians think Christians are looking for.

For example, when you set up your profile, you are asked to describe your faith with one of the following:

  • I attend church at least once a week and believe the Bible is a literal, inspired Word of God.
  • I actively attend church because my relationship with God is central to my life and the decisions I make.
  • Faith plays an important role in my life, but I don’t believe church attendance defines my devotion.
  • I attend church occasionally to meet other people and be a part of something bigger than myself.
  • I relate to Christianity culturally, but only attend church on holidays.

Some of the feedback we got from people we know who tried out Crosspaths is that they couldn’t figure out which of the first two options to choose. They believed both and wanted to check both. They couldn’t decide which was the best choice, and they often wondered why matches chose the option that they did. It is confusing and needs more distinction. When you are given so little options to define your faith and who you are as a believer, the clarity matters.

While it’s definitely better than the “What’s your favorite Bible verse?” question that Collide began with, it still feels like the Crosspaths creators just don’t quite get Christians.

Crosspaths Dating App Review :: Bottom Line

The creators of the Crosspaths app promise sponsored mixers and social good events, so that sounds like a variation of the typical mobile-only dating app that has potential. Obviously, those things will come if/when the app continues to grow. At that point, it might make Crosspaths a real contender in the mobile-only Christian dating app niche. Until then, it doesn’t quite stand out enough to rise above the other dating apps that are out there.
